Open to high school students of all ages!
Extreme STEAM Saturdays offers participants a unique opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, and Mathematics).
Participants will explore learning topics such as 3D rendering, 3D printing, laser-cutting, red blood cell analysis, DNA isolation, coliform and microbe analysis, water and soil quality analysis, coding, autonomous drone flight, robotics, engineering design challenges, and much more!

Students will gain a basic understanding of block coding and drone flight mechanics. Students will be presented with a set of both controlled flight and autonomous flight challenges. No prior block coding and drone experience required!
Students with a basic understanding of block coding and drone flight mechanics will focus solely on several autonomous drone obstacle course challenges in this session. Students will be presented with a set of both controlled flight and autonomous flight challenges. This is part two of the beginner drone ESS session.
Note: Some prior block coding and drone experience required.
In this session, students will design and 3D print their own devices using assistive technology and human centered design to help people with everyday tasks. Students will be taught introductory 3D modelling skills, apply critical thinking to identify the 'need', collaborate on the design the devices, and then 3D print their product!
In this session, students will undergo a scientific journey to visually examine how much DNA is in common food items we eat and the evolutionary significance of red blood cells. Students will be given the tools to extract DNA from strawberries and/or cherry tomatoes as well as process blood smears, stain slides, and examine the contents of the slide under the microscope.
